Lego Magazine ad from the year 1981.

A post on Slate's Double-X blog led me to this. Compare this ad, ostensibly targeted at girls (or their parents), to how lego tries to appeal to girls now: http://belville.lego.com/en-us/default.aspx

Toys are even more gender segregated now than they were 30 years ago.

Yep. It's either guns or Barbies. Or it's really bad and they make "regular" Tinker Toys and pink Tinker Toys. Is it any wonder I don't want to know what I'm having yet? How long can I keep it a secret? I want none of that crap.
